Obligation to Report

SCOPE: Triage Nurse, Registered Nurse, RN

POLICY: 

Licensed contractors working for Anytime Pediatrics who have reasonable cause to believe that an individual is being abused, neglected, or exploited, or is in a condition which is the result of being abused, neglected, or exploited, shall report such belief to the appropriate authorities in compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.


PROCEDURE:

  1. Caller identifies an event of abuse, neglect, or exploitation; but the patient is not in present danger
  2. The triage nurse will proceed with triage process and documentation
  3. The triage nurse will include verbatim comments from caller in narrative documentation including identity of the individual(s) causing harm.
  4. Disposition will be recommended as determined by triage process or nursing judgment
  5. Caller will be provided with applicable community resources regardless of disposition
  6. Caller will be made aware of triage nurse’s obligation to report
  7. Triage nurse will contact on call provider as additional guidance on which agency to contact may be needed.
  8. Triage nurse will contact appropriate authorities to report event
    1. The name and contact information of the person accepting report should be obtained and included in documentation.
  1. Triage nurse informs supervisor of event


  1. Caller identifies an event of abuse and is in present danger
  2. Caller will be instructed to hang up the phone and call 911.
  3. The triage nurse will contact appropriate authorities and provide as much information as possible, including phone number for caller identification log.
  4. The triage nurse will document available information in phone encounter in Anytime Pediatrics Platform.
  5. Triage nurse informs supervisor of event and contact the on call provider if applicable.
